Training

As a working individual it is beneficial to come with a medical experience or education in the healthcare fraternity. At the entry level, a master’s qualification may be a must. However, if you have a bachelors degree coupled with necessary experience you can land into a good place for a decent job. Those who wish to enter the clinical area will require prior on-the-job training such as nursing or physician training. Masters in Healthcare Administration is a common degree that students prefer to study and become a medical officer. This two years program offers the students with clinical and organizational management know-how covering subjects of healthcare systems, healthcare economics, financial concepts, ethics, health laws, health policies and workforce development. Often the institutes offer evening classes to accommodate working individuals.

If not a Masters program, you can also choose a one year’s Graduate certificate course if you have a bachelors degree and relevant experience to your credit. This certificate course covers facets such as Health care organizations, Leadership, Human resources and financial management. It aims at providing the students with the necessary skills in the medical division varying from patient admissions to personnel management. Both of these courses should be accredited by authorized agencies such as the Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).

You can also be part of various workshops and seminars organized by the healthcare institutes. These seminars also include webinars and online workshops to focus on bringing awareness to matters associated with long term and acute care amenities. These organizations also provide with opportunities of e-learning courses and annual conferences so that the medical administrators keep themselves abreast of the latest financial trends of the healthcare.

However from amongst these not all come into direct contact with the patients or the hospitals. There are those individuals who work in pharmaceuticals companies, consulting firms and unions with definite working hours and stipulated working ambiance. Unlike these, the medical practitioners who work day and night in contact with the patients have a far more hectic and strenuous schedule to follow.  They are expected to put in long working hours. In fact if at any time there is an emergency at the hospital, clinic or nursing home they might be wanted to be present in the premises at odd hours too. This category will also comprise of medical administrators who have to travel across the country (rural areas) to help save lives of people and to treat them medically.
